Home Fibroids – Diagnosis and Medical Management

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths in the uterus (womb). They arise from the smooth muscle that makes up the uterus. Fibroids are a frequent cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain and pressure, urinary and intestinal symptoms and can contribute to infertility and cause complications during pregnancy.

Uterine fibroids are diagnosed by pelvic examination, ultrasound and other imagining. Management of uterine fibroids depends on the patients symptoms, the patients desire for pregnancy and her desire to keep her uterus. Treatment may include hormonal medications, brief presurgical medical therapy to shrink the fibroids and definitive surgical procedures such as myomectomy and hysterectomy.

We at NOVA Surgery Center are experts in minimally invasive surgery and perform Laproscopic (key hole surgery) myomectomy and Laproscopic hysterectomy for definitive treatment of fibroids. This allows for faster recovery and less post-operative pain.
